Let 2011 go… it ain`t worth it.

Well,
I was thinking of making a great glorious speech of a blog post to end 2011. Especially seeing as I`ve struggled to get posts up. But you know what… 2011 was a shitty year for me. Save for our daughter… it sucked.
So I say let it whimper off and let’s see if we can make 2012 a little better…
Quelle ostie d’année de marde!
Ruger 10/22 MOD
by RadMan on Jul.20, 2011, under General
So, I’ve finally gotten pretty much all the aftermarket components for my rifle that I’m going to get for the time being. It has changed quite a bit from the stock form…
Couple of pictures below, the 1st being a stock picture from Ruger’s site of a un-modded 10/22 with the remaining 3 being my rifle.
Here’s the list:
- Ruger 10/22 Carbine
- Boyd’s SS Evolution stock in Nutmeg colour
- Green Mountain 19in Heavy Taper Barrel (Blued)
- Superior Concepts Tactical Charging Handle (Matt Black)
- Volquartsen Custom Take Down Action Screw
- Volquartsen Custom Exact Edge Extractor
- Tactical Solutions Performance V-Block
- Tasco TG21042I 2.5-10x42mm Scope (Mil-Dot Illuminated) with basic rings
Now this rifle is still brand-new, unfired. I can’t comment on function yet, but aesthetically I’m VERY pleased with how this rifle is turning out.
Stock Notes
- Extremely happy with how the stock looks. I had a few concerns it might look too spacey, but seeing it in person I think it looks really smart. Boyd’s did a fantastic job with the inletting as well… I had NO problems inserting the action into the stock. Perfect fit.
Barrel Notes
- I wasn’t quite happy with the look of the original barrel. A bit too lightweight looking and having the sights on there just didn’t float my boat. I decided to go with a clean, neo-western styled heavier barrel that just compliments the whole firearm.
Scope Notes
- I purchased an inexpensive scope that had the features I was considering to find out if I really want them or not. Once I’ve figured that out I will purchase something better with better rings.
- One will also notice that I have the scope rotated 90 degrees too far to the left. This is not by accident. It was to facilitate usage of the charging handle. Aesthetically I also feel it works very well.
Magazine Notes
- I have found that I prefer, both practically and aesthetically, the stock Ruger 10 round BX magazines. That being said, I intend to have available to me high capacity magazines all the same. I’ll be experimenting with both Butler Creek 25 round steel lip and Shooter’s Ridge 30 round steel lip (double stack) and we’ll see which performs better. To be honest though, I prefer the aesthetics of the Shooter’s Ridge.
Charging Handle
- I’m very pleased with how the charging handle completes a look that I feel is REALLY smart without looking too “tacti-COOL”. Not a big fan of turning a 22 rifle into an assault rifle looking thing. To each his own I guess.

I’ve been searching high and low for the best deal I could find… best performance to buck ratio… and I think I’ve found it! I found (and acquired) a pair of Energy Connoisseur C-2s for $60!
I’ve removed the sticky tape residue and given the cabinets a polish to look a little better. Once I get the grill cloth replaced I’ll be able to send these to Dad.
All I need now is a receiver to go along with…
