Lying sacks of S**T

by RadMan on Sep.02, 2010, under Social Commentary

I’m sorry for my language, but I’ve had it up to HERE with our politicians! No other language conveys my absolute disdain for these people.

CBC has learned (through a Freedom of Information request), and Please Login or Register to see the link. that the BC Liberals have been in discussions at a high level with the FEDS since January of 2009 regarding implementing the HST.

You will remember that the BC Liberals insisted that the HST wasn’t on their radar until AFTER the May 2009 election.

I mean, it stank something fierce as soon as it was announced, but now we have the unequivocal evidence that the electorate was purposely mislead. Absolute LIERS! And you know why this happens, time and time and time again? Because our democracy has failed. Because we’ve got an electorate that couldn’t care any less about understanding the issues that befall them. Because spin has become a more effective tool that rational argument and true debate. Our federal and provincial politicians, and to a lesser degree municipal politicians, give us snow job after snow job, and we accept it. And when challenged about our apathy, we respond with “What are you going to do?” and “It is what it is.”

IT IS WHAT WE MAKE IT!

Now, let me be clear. It is not the HST in-and-of-itself that ticks me off. It has it’s pros and cons, and I can appreciate both sides. What ticks me off so much is HOW it was brought about. On that grounds alone, I support the BC HST petition and wish to see the tax struck down.

I intend to contact my MLA about this, and make clear to her in no uncertain terms that if she is to have ANY chance of earning my vote come next election (which as it is is a stretch) she’ll have to resign from the Liberal Party and sit as an independent.

End of rant, that’s my 10 cents and I’m getting off my soapbox now.

Mosque Minarets…

by RadMan on Nov.29, 2009, under Social Commentary

I just read a story on CBC’s news website Please Login or Register to see the link..

Please Login or Register to see the link.

I found what I read disgusting, both the story and some of the comments people where posting. If anyone is curious about my view on the matter, here is what I had to say and posted:

“The result of this vote and the nature of some of the comments on this story pain my heart. I feel it speaks sad volumes on the state of acceptance of different cultures.

For those that make the argument that it is to protect one’s culture… I would be curious to know if you feel the same way when Québec makes moves to protect its culture? In many cases, I would guess the answer is no. I bet most of those would view Québec in a dim light. For the record I’m a French Canadian, and I feel Québec’s nationalist bend is not in the best interest of Québec. I feel much of it is routed in bigotry and has no place in a “Just Society”.

Le vote éthnique, hein Parizeau? Disgusting!

For those that feel that Muslims are catered to too much, I would remind you that Islam has a long and proud tradition, just as Christianity and Judaism. Yet we have no issue with celebrating Christmas, Easter… nor do we have any issue with antiquated traditions like Thanksgiving. Principally only celebrated in Canada and the US.

How about those lazy Canadians, wanting a day off on their country’s birthday?!

Cultural makeups of countries and regions change with time… just ask the Sumerians and Babylonians. I suggest people get used to it and find a way to respect it and appreciate it. There is no reason for Muslims to be made to feel that they and their culture are not wanted. At least to my atheist sensibility.”

I know it’s short and quite flippant, but too bad that’s how I feel.
